Physiotherapist & Exercise Physiologist
Brendon is a local and the founder of The Village Gym at Pottsville. Since 2019 it has become the ultimate facility for rehabilitation, fitness and learn-to-swim in the Northern Rivers. A rehabilitation, strength and physical conditioning facility that dreams are made of. Brendon continues to treat as a highly experienced full time physiotherapist and exercise physiologist providing hands-on manual therapy, home, gym and hydrotherapy based exercise programs.
Brendon commenced his career as an Exercise Physiologist, as founder of FunxionPLus in 2003, conducting specific rehabilitation programs for post-surgical injuries in gymnasiums from Byron Bay to the northern Gold Coast. In 2005, after completing his Masters in Physiotherapy, Brendon started Physio Place in Tweed Heads South and continued its growth to become the largest physiotherapy clinic in the Tweed Heads region until 2023. He has also been the foundation director of Physiotherapy & Exercise Physiology services at The Tweed Health for Everyone SuperClinic since its completion in 2013 until 2023. Brendon’s role as the senior physiotherapist was responsible for 8 clinicians included ongoing professional development and training, supervision of local affiliated sports team rehab programs and normal physiotherapy clinician duties.
Brendon has worked as a physiotherapist specialising in sports injuries for:
Athletics Australia – travelling internationally for Diamond League Athletics as the Australian physiotherapist and medical advisor. As the physiotherapist for Sally Pearson (Olympic and World 100m Hurdles Gold Medallist) 2015-2016 in preparation for Rio Olympics. Queensland Cup Seagulls Rugby League. Kingscliff Olympic swimming squad. Bilambil Rugby League. Tweed Coast Raiders Rugby League. Tweed Valley Kings Premier League Soccer. Cudgen Rugby League and has completed over 70,000 private consultations in his career.
Brendon has co-authored the Recovery Guide series of books and DVDs for orthopaedic rehabilitation and common sport injuries including; Total Knee Replacement; Total Hip Replacement; Anterior Cruciate Ligament reconstruction; Knee Arthroscopy & Menisectomy, Rotator Cuff repair, Shoulder Acromioplasty; Shoulder Anterior Stabilisation; Lumbar Disc Injury; Hamstring Strain; and sporting Ankle Sprain. He continues to work closely with patients as a hands-on physiotherapist and has a background in sports coaching including swimming, touch football, rugby league, athletics and worked briefly as a physical education teacher.
He focuses strongly on educating patients about their condition or injury and skilling patients to ultimately self-manage by providing a clear program of exercises and stretches. He continues professional development, particularly in the field of manual therapy, deep trigger point dry needling and intra-muscular stimulation, also completing Pilates equipment Level 3 training.
Brendon has close working relationships with several orthopaedic surgeons, sports medicine physicians and local GP’s. He works closely with local athletes, surfers, Olympic and world championship swimmers, A grade Rugby League Players and has a passion for rehabilitation of the shoulder joint.
With a passion for excellence in rehabilitation and a philosophy of “Exercise is Medicine”, Brendon and his team are focused on being part of patient’s wellbeing – not just merely solving pain and injuries.
Brendon also has completed Level one coaching qualifications in 8 different sports and learn-to-swim AustSwim instructor during his earlier studies as a Physical Education teacher.
BOOK BRENDON TODAY!In her clinical and teaching work Liz is motivated by her interest in improving and maintaining muscle, bone and joint health across the lifespan. Liz applies her breadth of skills and knowledge across exercise physiology and physiotherapy disciplines to individualise therapy programs to assist each patient achieve their performance, movement and health related goals. She has a particular interest in how the musculoskeletal and nervous systems change in the presence of persistent pain and has studies extensively in this area. The foundations of Liz’s treatment approach are developing body awareness, most commonly with the use of massage and biofeedback, and engaging in regular movement. She works hard to ensure all of her patients understand the role of both exercise physiology and physiotherapy in managing their health conditions and the vast and very important influence of movement on health and wellbeing.
Liz’s background
Liz has worked in preventative health and rehabilitation science since graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Anatomical Sciences and Masters of Applied Science in Clinical Exercise Physiology from University of Queensland in 2004. After a number of years working primarily with patients with chronic health conditions in gyms and medical centres in Australia, Liz relocated to the UK where she worked as the clinical lead in community cardiac rehabilitation and type 2 diabetes management in the team responsible for developing the pilot Healthwise GP Referral Program for the Greenwich PCT which is now offered widely across the UK to support people with chronic diseases to become more physically active. On her return to Australia, motivated by her passion for the fields of neuroscience and musculoskeletal health and her desire to better support her patients with more complex health presentations, Liz went on to complete a physiotherapy degree from Griffith University (2011). Then completed a Masters in Pain Management from University of Sydney Faculty of Medicine (2017) while working at both the Northern Private Pain Centre and the Royal North Shore Pain Management and Research Centre, a national tertiary leader in the multi-disciplinary treatment of persistent pain. Liz now lives and works in the Tweed.
Liz is a dedicated health educator and has held clinical teaching roles at University of Queensland in the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences and at University of New England in the School of Exercise and Sports Science while continuing to work clinician.
Outside work Liz enjoys family life at home on her small farm with her partner and two small children, the beach, camping and all things Italian. She also loves a physical challenge and has completed the Three Peaks Challenge (UK), Kokoda Track (PNG), a number of 10km community organised runs and half marathons. Often these events are to raise support for Australian based health oriented charity organisations including The May 50k for MS research, and Send Hope Not Flowers who provide healthcare and support for vulnerable mothers in Papua New Guinea and across the developing world.

Liz is registered provider under Medicare Chronic Disease Management Program (Exercise Physiology item 10953 and Physiotherapy item 10960 services), DVA and a number of private health funds. She is also available to provide services through self-funded and managed NDIS programs, Work Cover Qld and Workcover NSW (SIRA).

Alex has gained experience in private practice across the Gold Coast region and the UK, blending hands-on modalities, education, and exercise therapy to guide her patients through the rehabilitation process. Locally, she was also a physiotherapist for the Bilambil Jets Rugby league team in 2022, where they won their first premiership on home turf. Alex upholds evidence-based practice and integrates her expertise as a clinical Pilates instructor and strength and conditioning coach into personalised rehab programs for her patients.
Beyond the clinic, she loves the outdoors running, surfing, or hiking!
Piers is our resident massage therapist at The Village Gym and draws upon over 10 years of exercise prescription and personal training experience. He is delighted to offer massage therapy as part of a wholistic health program. Piers can incorporate techniques of Swedish relaxation, trigger point therapy as well as mobility testing to advance clients health goals and overcome restrictions. He has broad NDIS/disability experience and can assist pre and post surgery rehabilitation in conjunction with our Allied Health team.
